The benefits to membership in CTDA are endless and the value is real and focused. Porcelain Tile Certification Agency The Ceramic Tile Distributors Association is dedicated to being involved with all aspects of the tile industry. The term "porcelain ceramic tile" is specifically defined by an American National Standard as, ceramic mosaic tile or ceramic paver tile that is generally made by the dust-pressed method of a composition resulting in a tile that is dense, impervious, fine-grained, and smooth with sharply formed face that has a water absorption of 0.5% or less, when tested in accordance with ASTM C373. However, sometimes the term 'porcelain' is used with tiles that do not meet this standard. The Porcelain Tile Certification Agency (PTCA) was established jointly by the CTDA (representing distributors) and the Tile Council of North America (representing manufacturers) to clarify for the consumer whether or not the product they are purchasing is "porcelain". Porcelain Certification helps alleviate several problems including; product failures, marketplace confusion, and liability to US distributors. Companies that manufacture or sell qualifying ceramic tile may apply for certification. For more information on the PTCA and Porcelain Certification download the brochure by clicking here.
